Who pays, and what you will spend
The short version: employers pay us when they hire you. You never pay us anything. This page explains why that is true, what you will spend money on anyway, and who gets that money.
Why we do not charge you
Three reasons, in order of how much they should matter to you.
Because it is illegal where you are going. In Canada the employer pays the Labour Market Impact Assessment fee and cannot recover it from the worker.1 Australia and the United Kingdom have equivalent prohibitions on passing sponsorship costs to the worker. Charging you would cost us our licence in every corridor we operate in — that is not a risk any firm takes for a few hundred dollars.
Because charging you would make us something else. Recruitment fees paid by the worker are one of the International Labour Organization’s indicators of forced labour.2 A worker who has paid to get a job is a worker who cannot leave it. We are not willing to be the first step in that, and no employer we work with would accept a candidate who arrived that way.
Because it aligns us with you. We are paid when an employer hires you and you stay hired. If we present someone who is not ready, we lose money. That is why we ask so many questions before presenting anyone, and why we sometimes tell people their route is not open today — which is a thing an agent paid by you would never do.
What you will spend, and to whom
These costs are real and you should plan for them. None of them pass through us. You pay the official body directly, and we will tell you the amount and the payee before you spend anything.
Amounts in naira are converted at the rate on 12 October 2026. Official fees are set in the destination currency and change without notice. Always check the authority’s own page before you pay.
The order matters more than the total
The most expensive mistake we see is not overpaying — it is paying in the wrong order.
People sit an English test before knowing which one their regulator accepts. People pay for credential assessment before renewing a lapsed licence, and the assessment stalls. People pay for translations of documents that were never going to be asked for.
Do not spend anything until you have finished the questions and a lawyer has looked at your file. It costs you nothing and it is the whole reason the modules exist.
What an employer sometimes covers
Some mandates include relocation support, the immigration health surcharge, or funding for a language course. That is negotiated at offer stage, employer by employer, and it varies.
We will tell you plainly when it applies to your file. We will not use it as a reason for you to start spending now, because a benefit that depends on an offer you do not yet have is not a benefit.
If anyone asks you for money in our name
Nobody at Soretum will ever ask you for money. Not for an application, not for a “file opening fee”, not for priority, not for a deposit, not for a job offer.
If someone does, they are not us.
